Small Private Dining Rooms in NYC for 6 to 16 Guests

Harriet Vance · October 27, 2026 · 8 min read

Small private dining rooms in NYC for 6 to 16 guests: 21 rooms at 15 restaurants by published capacity, the one minimum printed, and which figures to confirm.

Small private dining rooms in NYC run from 8 to 16 guests, and 12 is the most common published maximum: of 21 rooms at 15 restaurants, 7 stop at 12, 5 stop lower and 9 go higher. The smallest is the Humidor Room at Aretsky’s Patroon, 8 seated, and four more top out at 10: the Capri Room at Bucatini, a semi-private dinner at WEST10WEST, the Alcove at Union Square Cafe and the Aperitivo mirror side at Palma. Capacities, prices and policies below come from each restaurant’s own website or event kit, checked in October 2026. Bare or conflicting numbers (WEST10WEST, Misirizzi, Patroon’s Wine Cellar) are flagged in the table.

What restaurants in NYC have private rooms for 6 to 16 guests?

Rooms are sorted by each restaurant’s smallest published maximum. Figures are seated unless noted; “unlabeled” means the page prints a bare guest count.

Restaurant Address Best for Published figure
Aretsky’s Patroon 160 E 46th St, Midtown East A discreet table of 8 Humidor Room 8 seated; Match Room 12 seated; Wine Cellar 12 seated, but a bare 12 on its own page (confirm)

Delmonico’s 56 Beaver St, Financial District Executive dinners Board Room up to 16 (unlabeled)
Da Claudio 21 Ann St, Financial District Aperitivo or cocktail format Smallest of four options: up to 16 seated

Method: a room is listed when its restaurant’s own page or event kit prints a seated or unlabeled figure from 6 to 16, and is tallied at its largest such figure (ilili at its round-table 16, counted once despite three identical rooms; WEST10WEST at the six to ten in its text). Standing and reception numbers are not tallied, and rooms with a maximum above 16 are left out. Point Seven’s Coral Bar is listed because it prints a seated 12, though it is pitched for sushi and cocktail receptions.

How many people fit in a small private dining room?

The published maximums are 1 room at 8, 4 at 10, 7 at 12, 3 at 14 and 6 at 16. Because headcounts shift, ask for a room whose maximum is at least two seats above the confirmed count. By that rule a party of 8 has 20 of the 21 rooms, 10 has 16, 12 has 9 and 14 has 6; Have & Meyer’s cellar sets a floor of 10 and L’Artusi frames its events as parties of 10 to 90, so smaller groups should ask first.

The table plan moves the number as much as the guest list: ilili Midtown lists 14 boardroom style and 16 at round tables. Ask which layout each maximum assumes.

Which rooms fit 6 to 10 guests?

Patroon’s Humidor Room, the smallest at 8 seated, is pitched as “an intimate space perfect for discreet business functions or social events.” WEST10WEST sells a semi-private dinner at its largest table “with the rest of the room dining as normal” and says “Six is comfortable; ten is a happy squeeze,” which at a 23-seat restaurant means a table inside the dining room rather than a closed one. Its page says six to ten, but its inquiry form labels the private dinner option “Private dinner (10–16),” so confirm which range applies before planning around either.

Union Square Cafe’s web page lists the Alcove at up to 10 seated, overlooking the main dining room; its event kit gives 6-10. Palma’s Aperitivo mirror side, at 30 Cornelia Street, hosts semi-private dinners in the back area for a maximum of 10; the page does not say whether that is seated.

Which rooms fit 11 or 12 guests?

Have & Meyer’s cellar is exclusive to the booking, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 12; smaller parties, down to a dinner for two, are possible only “exceptionally upon availability.” Its separate private room lists only a minimum of 12 people, so it is not tallied. Misirizzi’s Tavernetta is described as seating up to 12 guests, though the capacity line prints only “12,” so confirm the unit. Patroon’s events page lists the Match Room at 12 seated or 15 for a reception and the Wine Cellar at 12 seated, but the Wine Cellar’s own page prints just “MAXIMUM CAPACITY 12,” so confirm that it is a seated figure.

Point Seven lists The Atlantic at 12 seated and 18 standing, and its Coral Bar at 12 seated and 25 standing. Aquavit’s web page calls its Bar Room “semi-private” for up to 12; its event kit calls it the Lounge and sets “one round table for up to 12 guests.”

Which rooms fit 14 to 16 guests?

Charlie Bird’s private dining room takes up to 14; the page says a deposit may be required along with a signed agreement. L’Artusi’s Private Wine Room also takes up to 14, with food and beverage minimums the page does not quantify. Palma’s Aperitivo window side has a maximum of 14.

At 16: Il Gattopardo’s Alcove is semi-private on the main dining room floor, Palma’s Carriage House Kitchen opens onto its courtyard, Point Seven’s Pacific room adds 26 standing, and Delmonico’s Board Room is a wood-paneled room for executive dinners. ilili reaches 16 only at round tables. Da Claudio’s smallest space seats 16, but its page pitches that room for aperitivo and cocktail receptions around high-top tables.

What does a small private dining room cost?

One restaurant of the 15 prints a small-room minimum. Union Square Cafe’s event kit lists no room fee for the Alcove and food and beverage minimums of $450 for lunch or brunch, $1,500 for dinner from January to November and $2,000 in December, with gratuity and 8.875% sales tax extra (as of October 2026). Spread evenly, the dinner minimum is 150 dollars a guest at 10 and 250 at 6; December at 10 is 200.

Aquavit prints menu prices rather than a minimum: its kit lists dinner at $175 per person, or $250 for the five-course chef’s tasting menu, with tax, gratuity and an administrative fee added and beverages billed on consumption. At 12 guests the lower menu is 2,100 dollars before drinks and those additions. L’Artusi and Da Claudio say minimums apply without printing one; the other 11 print no room price or minimum on the pages checked. Confirm every figure with the events coordinator.

Three checks before you choose a room

Ask whether the figure is one table or rounds, as at ilili Midtown (14 against 16). Ask whether the room closes: Union Square Cafe’s Alcove, Il Gattopardo’s Alcove and WEST10WEST’s table all sit in a dining room that stays open. Ask for the minimum on your date, since Union Square Cafe is the only one of the 15 that prints one. For the first email, WEST10WEST says it replies within 48 hours and ilili Midtown within one business day.

If the list grows, the best private dining rooms in NYC by occasion covers 10 to 25 guests, including L’Artusi’s early, late and full-night seatings, and private dining for groups of 15 or more starts where this one ends. Five of these restaurants (Patroon, Bucatini, Aquavit, Point Seven and Il Gattopardo) also appear in Midtown rooms by published capacity, which covers their larger rooms, standing figures and weekend hours. For a party of six that fits an ordinary table, a sister publication’s Italian picks for a table of six covers party-size caps and booking windows instead.

Frequently asked questions

Which NYC restaurants have a private dining room for 10 people?

Four rooms among the 15 restaurants compared top out at exactly 10: Bucatini’s Capri Room, Union Square Cafe’s Alcove, Palma’s Aperitivo mirror side and WEST10WEST’s semi-private dinner, whose page says six to ten while its form says 10-16. Another 16 rooms list 12 to 16, as published in October 2026.

How many people fit in a small private dining room?

Among the 21 rooms compared, published maximums run from 8 to 16 guests, with 12 stopping at 12 or fewer and 9 reaching 14 or more. Ask for a room two seats above your confirmed headcount, and whether the maximum assumes one table or rounds.

What is the smallest private dining room in NYC?

Of the rooms compared, Patroon’s Humidor Room is the smallest, at 8 seated, and the restaurant pitches it for discreet business functions or social events; four other rooms top out at 10. The comparison covers 15 restaurants, not every room in the city.

Is there affordable private dining in NYC for a small group?

Few of the 15 restaurants print prices. As of October 2026, Union Square Cafe’s event kit lists a $1,500 Alcove minimum for dinner from January to November and $2,000 in December, and Aquavit’s lists dinner at $175 or $250 per person; tax and gratuity are extra at both. Confirm any figure with the events coordinator.
